    Dr. Vicki Eppard grew up in Springfield, Virginia, 15 minutes outside of Washington, D.C. She did her undergraduate work at Mary Washington College in Fredericksburg, Virginia, and then worked for the United States State Department, Latin America division, and then the U.S. House of Representatives Small Business Committee. She moved to Colorado in 1980 and completed a B.S. in Biology, with a minor in Chemistry, at Metropolitan State College and University of Colorado at Denver. She received her doctorate in veterinary medicine from Colorado State University Veterinary Teaching Hospital in 1993. Dr. Eppard worked in a mixed animal practice for 1 year and then joined Douglas County Animal Hospital on Park Street in 1994. Dr. Eppard has continued with VCA Douglas County Animal Hospital since it joined the VCA family in 2004. She is currently medical director of the general practice at VCA Douglas County Animal Hospital. In her free time she enjoys competing in AQHA Horse shows & western events. Dr. Eppard & her Husband enjoy spending time with their Golden Retrievers, Rottweiler, Deerhound & Jack Russel Pack.

    Dr. King was born and raised in Wyoming. He graduated from veterinary school in 1997 from Kansas State University. He has been with VCA Douglas County Animal Hospital since 2009, as one of our amazing overnight emergency doctors. He enjoys hiking, 4 wheeling and spending time with his wife, daughters and grandchildren. His special interests include emergency medicine for dogs, cats and non primate exotics.

  • Shanna Pace

    DVM

    Dr. Pace relocated to Castle Rock from Seattle, WA in September of 2013. She attended veterinary school at Virginia-Maryland Regional College of Veterinary Medicine (graduated 2005) followed by a rotating medicine and surgery internship at Angell Animal Medical Center in Massachusetts. After completion of her internship she joined the VCA team as a general practitioner at VCA Southeast Area Animal Hospital in Aurora, Colorado. In 2008, she left Colorado to complete an internal medicine residency at the University of Georgia. After completion of her residency in 2011, she joined the internal medicine team and became medical director of VCA Veterinary Specialty Center of Seattle. Following a passion to live, work and raise her family in Colorado she recently made the move back to the Denver area. She is now the Emergency and Specialty Services Medical Director at VCA Douglas County Animal Hospital and along with Dr. Jessica Timian is part of the internal medicine department. She has special interests in renal, endocrine and immune mediated diseases. She has done and published research on hyperadrenocorticism and hypercoagulability. While not working her loves include her beautiful daughter Skylar, her dogs Hanna and Willow and her horse Cherie.

    Dr. Jessica Timian joined VCA Douglas County Animal Hospital on August 5, 2013. Dr. Timian obtained her Doctorate of Veterinary Medicine from UC Davis in 2009. After completing a small animal medicine and surgery rotating internship at VCA West Los Angeles, she moved to Colorado for a small animal internal medicine residency at Colorado State University. She completed her residency and obtained her Master's degree in July 2013. Dr. Timian's special interests are in endocrine, urinary, and autoimmune diseases, though she truly enjoys all aspects of internal medicine. While not at work she enjoys spending time with her husband and dogs (Oakley, Isabel and Paige).

  • Scott Hafeman

    Dr. Hafeman is originally from Nebraska and grew up in a farming and ranching family. He received his Bachelor's degree in biological sciences from the University of Nebraska-Lincoln. He then attended Colorado State University and graduated with his Doctor of Veterinary Medicine degree in 2006. Dr. Hafeman did a one year rotating internship in oncology, internal medicine, cardiology, emergency medicine and surgery at North Carolina State University and completed that program in 2007. He then returned to CSU to pursue a PhD in tumor immunology, which he completed in 2011. He has worked as a part or full time emergency veterinarian since 2007 and as a full time emergency veterinarian in the Denver area since 2011. He also managed medical oncology cases for Colorado Veterinary Specialists in Denver from 2010-2013. Dr. Hafeman is very excited to be part of the team at VCA Douglas County and started October 1, 2013. His professional interests include oncology, hematology, immunology and emergency medicine. He and his wife Erica have two pugs, two German shepherds, two rabbits, three horses, a cat and a turtle in their family. Outside of work he is a volunteer speaker for the American Cancer Society. He and his family (sans cat, rabbits and turtle) enjoy camping, fly fishing, hiking and otherwise exploring Colorado and Wyoming's beautiful back-country.

    Dr. Livia Wieringa is originally from Santa Fe, NM. She went to college in Flagstaff, AZ and veterinary school at Colorado State University in Fort Collins. After completing veterinary school she did a year long internship with a concentration in Emergency Medicine and Critical Care in Fort Collins, Greeley and Longmont, CO. After completing the internship she worked in Northern Colorado as an emergency veterinarian for 4 and 1/2 years before moving to Denver. For 3 years in Denver she has been an emergency relief veterinarian and has worked at multiple different clinics, she started as a relief emergency veterinarian at VCA DCAH the summer of 2012. She then became a full time employee in the Emergency Department in June of 2013. She is one of VCA DCAH's fabulous overnight ER doctors. Her passions are emergent diseases, trauma and pain management. Her personal interests include traveling, skydiving and yoga. She has one dog; a miniature Dachshund named Indiana Jones (and the Temple of Food) who loves to swim, hike and chase bunnies (which he never catches).
